How to Avoid Premature Aging in One Simple Step
The summer season presents us with the perfect dichotomy. On the one hand, we love spending time outdoors in the fresh air and warm sun, but on the other, we hate what the sun exposure and heat does to our skin. Summer can wreak complete havoc on our skin, and without taking the necessary steps we can end up coping with the undesirable problems of premature aging and acne. How can we avoid these hard to treat skin problems? Read on to learn how!
The Effects of Summer on Our Skin
Heat causes excessive sweating, which releases chloride and sodium onto the skin’s surface. Unfortunately, this is a fast way to cause an acne outbreak or to further inflame the acne condition you may already have. Constant heat can raise the body’s bacteria level, which can cause our bodies the inability to create sweat that is supposed to cool the body. Sweat that cannot evaporate due to humid conditions in the environment also increases skin’s bacteria levels, opening the door to infections.
Furthermore, excessive heat can inflame your skin and organs, which means that one will have difficulty spending much time outdoors during the summer months without experiencing some sort of adverse side effects. Drinking lots of water and controlling your daily exposure to heat can prevent you from experiencing many effects from heat rashes to skin infections and even preventing heatstroke.
Those are issues to keep in mind when planning out summer activities for your health. In addition to the potential damages caused by summer heat, there are the potential damages caused by the summer sun. The UV rays emanating from the sun are incredibly dangerous to the skin–so dangerous in fact that without the protection provided by the ozone layer, we would be forced to remain indoors constantly in order to avoid such exposure.
As it is, ultraviolet UVA and UVB rays can cause premature aging and skin cancer if we’re not diligent about protecting against them–and few know that they can even penetrate clouds on overcast days. These rays are the cause of hyperpigmentation, which can change the color of our skin temporarily or permanently. Hyperpigmentation is another doorway to premature aging skin.
Fortunately, new skin therapies can work to reverse most hyper-pigmentation, but it is better to prevent this from occurring in the first place. To prevent premature aging, your best defense is to apply an SPF regularly. And I mean, regularly. You should have SPF ingrained into your daily routine so much that you forget that you do it! It’s a simple step that you can add into your morning skin care routine, including swapping out your foundation for one that has an SPF in it.
When you head out for a day at the beach or a family hike, natural sunscreens that protect against both UVA and UVB rays should be applied every two hours. Whenever you’re outdoors during the summertime, even on cloudy days, keep that sunscreen on hand in order to protect against sun damage. You won’t regret taking the short minute to apply it to yourself and your family members. I also recommend wearing a hat of some kind to shade your face from constant exposure of the sun – it’s cute and defends your skin for you from UV rays!
