Is Warm Stone Massage Right for You

Life can be chaotic, stressful, and – let’s face it – overwhelming!  We are constantly juggling work and family and are always looking for a chance to sneak away for a minute and unwind.  Obviously, massage is one of the most popular ways to relax, but with all of the different types of massage out there, how do you know which is the right one for you?  Warm Stone Massage, also known as Hot Stone Massage, incorporates the use of different sized and shaped stones that are gently warmed in water and placed along the spine to massage muscles and soft tissue.

Never had a Warm Stone Massage?

No worries!  If you’ve been thinking about booking a Warm Stone Massage but aren’t quite sure it’s the way to go for you, here are some things to think about:

  • Do you respond well to heat?

  • Do you tend to feel chilly or often have cold extremities?

  • Do you prefer a lighter massage?

If any of the above applies to you, then Warm Stone Massage is a great option to help ease any muscle soreness and release tension from your body.  Warm Stone Massage provides extra relaxation for those who suffer from anxiety or depression or are living with chronic joint conditions.  Warm Stone Massage enhances the benefits of traditional massage therapy by allowing for deep muscle relaxation without intense pressure or discomfort.

While Warm Stone Massage can benefit many, it is NOT recommended for people who:

  • Have Diabetes, Neuropathy, high blood pressure, cardiovascular conditions or a depressed immune system

  • Recently had surgery

  • Take medication that thins the blood

  • Suffer from skin conditions like Psoriasis, Dermatitis, Eczema, acne, Shingles, or burns

If you are pregnant or are being treated for cancer, make sure to consult your doctor before scheduling your massage.

Now that you have the inside scoop on whether Warm Stone Massage is right for you, here are some tips on how to get the most out of your massage:

  • Don’t eat a large meal right before your massage

  • Let your massage therapist know if the stones feel too hot or if you start feeling overheated

  • Following your massage session, slowly sit up at the edge of the table to avoid any post-massage dizziness

Quite literally, Warm Stone Massage “rocks”!  It’s a great alternative to traditional massage and is a milder way to provide soothing relief to the aches and pains of life.  Still not sure if it’s right for you?  Talk to your massage therapist today!

Love,
