Myths & Facts About Dermaplaning

It seems like Hollywood stars have all the secrets to great skincare. Why can’t you be part of their secret beauty club? Now you can! Dermaplaning has been revealed as one of the best kept beauty secrets in Hollywood. It has been rumored for decades that Elizabeth Taylor used to shave her face to get rid of unwanted “peach fuzz” and keep her skin silky smooth. Today’s skincare experts have found additional benefits to shaving the face, but have created a process that is more effective and safe: Dermaplaning!  Dermaplaning uses a sterile, surgical scalpel to carefully “shave” the surface of your skin, removing dead skin cells and vellus hair (aka peach fuzz).

Myth: But Won’t my Hair Grow Back Darker and Thicker?

Nope! It’s not true that shaving will cause your facial hair to grow back thicker and darker. Your hair will grow back at the same rate and have the same texture it had before the procedure. In fact, your hair might even appear more fine than before.

Myth: My Skin is too Dark for Dermaplaning

Wrong again!  Dermaplaning is safe for any skin type. Unlike laser treatments or facial peels, Dermaplaning can benefit people with darker complexions. Wearing sunscreen is recommened following any facials to help avoid pigmentation.

Myth: It’s Going to Hurt!

Hearing that a scalpel is going to be used on your face automatically makes you think that pain must be part of the procedure.  Not true! Dermaplaning treatment is performed very quickly without causing any pain.

Fact: Dermaplaning Speeds up Cell Turnover

Around age 30, skin’s natural exfoliation process goes from every two weeks to once every 40 days.  No one wants their complexion to suffer due to dead skin cells hanging around!  Dermaplaning gently removes the top layer of dead skin cells, revealing the vibrant, supple skin underneath.  Your skin will glow with radiance and fine lines will be diminished.

If you are new to Dermaplaning, we’re sure you have questions. Call Botanica now for more information and we’ll have your skin looking younger and flawless just in time for summer!
