Post-Thanksgiving Beauty Recovery

Thanksgiving is often one of our favorite times of the year to over-indulge on delicious food.  Unfortunately, over-indulging on Thanksgiving can lead to numerous physical issues–both internally and on the surface of the skin.  Luckily, there are things you can do in order to help detoxify and reinvigorate the body–with a combination of exfoliation, inflammation reduction and skin brightening techniques that stimulate the body’s natural abilities to health and strengthen itself.

Beauty Recovery Regimen

A post-Thanksgiving beauty recovery regimen should begin with reducing stress.  We all know that as much as we may enjoy spending quality time with our family members and friends, the holidays can also be a time of great stress and anxiety.  Unfortunately, this stress and anxiety can most definitely show up on our skin.  Antioxidants can work wonders in reducing the oxidation process that is often brought on by stress, as well as in speeding cellular repair.  Some of the best antioxidants include green tea and resveratrol, which contain phyto-nutrients, flavonoids and polyphenols.

In addition to combating stress, you need to ensure that your skin remains hydrated. Thanksgiving can mark the beginning of the colder, drier weather of the year, which can dry out the skin and cause it to look dry and feel itchy and painful.  In order to keep your skin fully hydrated, make sure to drink plenty of water and consume healthy fats like flax, fish oils and cold-pressed, extra virgin olive oil.  Moisturizers with high quality, absorbable oils can help ensure that your skin is able to absorb and retain water well.  On the skin other than your face, you may find that organic apricot kernel oil, as well as shea and cocoa butters, can help to prepare your skin against the colder, drier weather.

It’s also very important to consider proper skin exfoliation.  It can be highly beneficial to choose exfoliating products that contain sugar and fruit enzymes, as these can help to deep clean the skin, decongesting clogged pores and removing dead skin cells as needed.  If you find that you are suffering from inflammation or excessive pore congestion, you should choose products that contain effective active ingredients like salicylic acid.  To brighten and even out the tone of your skin, use licorice root, lemon peel and arbutin.  These can reduce discoloration and spots, revealing both a more even and a brighten complexion.

Of course, a trip to the spa for a relaxing full-body scrub and moisturizing skin treatment wouldn’t hurt!

Love,
